Ralph Goings Q&A with NPR
Quartet by Ralph Goings Excerpt: If the painting and the photograph were placed side by side one can readily see (I would hope) that, though they both depict the same slice of reality, they are not the same. I guess I might compare it, in my case, to the difference between a musical manuscript (a work of art) and the performance (also a work of art). Perhaps what I’m doing is making one...

The Hubbard Electrometer.
American science fiction writer and founder of the Church of Scientology L. Ron Hubbard uses his Hubbard Electrometer to determine whether tomatoes experience pain, 1968. His work led him to the conclusion that tomatoes “scream when sliced.” (via LIFE’s 30 Dumb Inventions) Possibly greater than the almighty E-Meter?

The Louvre's New $67 Million Wing
Louvre Director Henri Loyrette has decided to house the museum’s Islamic art collection in a gorgeous new wing. Wow. “It was not even a department when I arrived,” said Mr. Loyrette. “We did not want to make this a separate museum because Islamic art is so artistically and politically important. It’s so closely linked with all of Western art.” (via The New York Times)

A slap on the wrist for killing their daughter. →
This sentencing is ridiculous! Prosecutors said the couple had recklessly killed the youngest of their four children by ignoring clear symptoms of severe illness as she became too weak to speak, eat, drink or walk. They said the couple had a legal duty to take their daughter to a doctor but had instead relied totally on prayer for healing. Kara died on the floor of the family’s rural home as...

Radiohead- Videotape (Live at Bonnaroo 2006) →
From the In Rainbows Wikipedia page: “Yorke described the process of composing Videotape as ‘absolute agony’, stating that the song ‘went through every possible parameter’. One day, Yorke left the studio, returning to find that Godrich and Jonny Greenwood had stripped the song down to the version found on the album, a minimal piano ballad. What do you think? Do you...

Major Lazer- Keep It Goin’ Louder (feat. Nina Sky & Ricky Blaze) Not a huge fan of the song, but I like the video. The rest of the album is better (Hold The Line, When You Hear The Bassline, Pon De Floor) but this is definitely club worthy. Diplo just remixed this, too. Edit: I would like to note that this song is now in heavy rotation in my iTunes, for better or worse. It’s...

Wal-Mart Supports Phoenix.
http://soundcheck.walmart.com/risers/phoenix And so does Axe Body Spray! Reminds me of this post by Carles: While Phoenix’s songs are ‘catchy’, it is impossible to decipher ‘what the fuck they are talking about’ in their lyrics. This possibly has to do with a French to English language barrier. Imagine if u had to write ’smart-sounding’ pop lyrics in a foreign language and ended up making...

Fake Thom Yorke.
“(I tried to) ride the rollercoaster last year but they told me I was too short. Sitting on the teacups ride and crying was what inspired In Rainbows” ~ Thom Yorke “I once wrote a song so beautiful that I myself couldn’t sing it. It’s called Plastic Government Cheese Swan, and it’s about how the world is plastic and full of government cheese swans.” ~...
